Regardless of what stage your company is at, regardless of funding needs, regardless of what kind of investor you prefer, you have to get prepared to make your company attractive for investor and to get an as favourable deal as possible.

Presentation documents: business plan and slide decks have to be prepared in such a way that they make investor interested in considering an investment.

The “best” investors are to be found and contacted in the most professional manner. The process leading up to a final agreement is to be managed so that a best possible deal can be reached.

We have worked with a number of companies who want to expand internationally and are in particular looking for international investors, who can contribute with more than just money in an internationalization process.

An external investor has high requirements to the business in order to invest. It has to be a documented market for your products, the product or solution has to cover real needs in the marked that many are willing to spend money on. Professional investors have very high requirements to growth and return-on-investment. These are some of the challenges you will meet when doing a fund raising:

  • The product has to have a substantial market potential, represent something new, not only an improvement of solutions already on the market. The product has to represent a “need to have” rather than a “nice to have” solution. You have to do extensive market research which shows where your product fits in on the market and who your customers are.
  • You have to have a clear vision of how you are going to distribute your product to the market whether it is through distributors, representatives, web stores or other sales channels.
  • You have to know the total size of the market, and what market share you can achieve. How much funding is required to get the product to market. You have to prepare a forecast for the coming 5 years.
  • Investor will in turn make sure that you and your team are qualified and have the background he thinks are necessary to build the company and to reach the goals set in the forecast you have presented. Investor would also like to know what plans you have for an exit so that he can realize his investment at any given time. Are you planning a market sale, who are potential buyers or are you planning to go public.
